Is it time to replace your A/C system?

Consider these important factors when evaluating if it’s time for a new system. Your certified Arnold Air Conditioning technician and comfort advisor will guide you through every step, from comprehensive system design to professional unit replacement. Need immediate help? Call to schedule our HVAC repair service for fast, reliable solutions.

Repair Cost

While replacing a few parts might seem economical, our experience shows that when repair costs reach 20% of a new unit's price, replacement typically makes better financial sense. If your system has a history of breakdowns, investing in new equipment often provides greater peace of mind. This is especially true for older systems, which are being phased out and becoming increasingly costly to maintain.

Warranty

Before deciding on repairs or replacement, be sure to review your equipment's warranty terms. In most cases, replacement parts are covered under the original warranty but only for the duration of that warranty. Keep in mind that labor costs for repairs are often not included in the warranty coverage.

Equipment Age

The lifespan of your equipment depends on regular maintenance and the demands of daily operation. Generally, if your A/C or heat pump is over 8 to 10 years old, upgrading to a new system is the best way to ensure efficiency and reliability.

Moving or Staying?

If you're planning to move soon, repairing your system is often the most practical option. However, if you intend to stay in your home, investing in an energy-efficient A/C or heat pump is a smart choice. A properly sized system will keep your home cool while lowering energy costs.

How Well Is Your Existing Equipment Working?

Are your electric bills higher than expected? Is your A/C struggling to keep your home comfortably cool?

Has your A/C System had Regular Yearly Maintenance?

Just like you wouldn’t go years without changing your car’s oil, your HVAC system also needs regular care to run efficiently. The U.S. Department of Energy recommends annual pre-season maintenance check-ups by a professional contractor to keep your system in top shape.

Air Conditioning Tips

How often should I change my filter?

The frequency depends on the type of filter you use and how often your system runs. In general, standard filters should be replaced every month. However, high-efficiency filters can last between six to twelve months before needing a change.

What temperature should I set my thermostat to?

The ideal setting is one that keeps you comfortable while helping manage your utility bills. However, the key factor in your home is often humidity. Maintaining a higher level in the winter and a lower level in the summer ensures both personal comfort and helps prevent mold and mildew growth.

Why won't my outdoor unit come on?

The issue could be that the double pole breaker in the panel has been tripped. It may also be time for a service check to ensure the safety switches are functioning properly. If these switches have been triggered, they will prevent the A/C unit from receiving the signal to turn on.

Why is my indoor unit leaking water?

A clogged condensation drain or frozen indoor coil could be the culprit, often caused by a dirty filter or low refrigerant levels. In this case, the drain should be cleared, and the filter may need to be replaced to resolve the issue.

Why Is My Thermostat Blank?

If your thermostat suddenly goes dark, there are a few simple things you can check before calling in a repair. The most common cause is a triggered float switch. This happens when your drain line is backed up and the system shuts off to prevent water damage. If your thermostat uses batteries, try replacing them. You’ll also want to take a quick look at your circuit breaker in case it’s been tripped. If everything looks good and your screen is still blank, give us a call. We’ll take it from there.

A room is too hot or too cold?

If one room in your home always feels warmer or cooler than the rest, it could be a sign that your system isn’t properly sized or balanced for your space. It may be time to have one of our comfort advisors take a look and make sure everything is set up for optimal airflow and even temperatures throughout your home.

Air Quality Impacts Your Comfort

Your HVAC system plays a crucial role in keeping the air inside your home comfortable, clean, and healthy. That’s why choosing the right components and ensuring proper maintenance is essential for optimal performance.
